Balloon Fiesta ready for launch October 1-9

ALBUQUERQUE, NM /ACCESSWIRE/September 29, 2022/ The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, powered by ExxonMobil, will launch from Balloon Fiesta Park, October 1-9, 2022. The 50th event will feature 648 balloons, 120 of which are special shapes. Pilots representing 22 countries have been invited to participate in this year’s event. Eight gas balloon teams will participate in the 25e America’s Challenge Gas Balloon Race. More information about the nine-day event is available by visiting www.balloonfiesta.com.

Balloon Fiesta is already the Guinness World Record holder for the greatest mass balloon ascent and will attempt two world records to The greatest balloon ascent for remote-controlled balloons and Most hot air balloons in one glow. The event will feature 83 remote-controlled balloons participating in the Fiesta de los Globitos. There will potentially be 200 hot air balloons participating in several of the five scheduled balloon glows.

Here are some of the highlights for the 50e Hot air balloon festival:

Mass climbs – Balloon Fiesta’s 648 guest pilots will participate in the morning’s five mass ascension launches. These will include a launch of over 500 hot air balloon pilots taking to the skies in multiple waves, hoping to catch the infamous and unique weather phenomena called the Albuquerque Box. Massive Balloon Fiesta morning climbs will be launched on weekends (October 1-2, 8-9) and midweek (October 5).

The ball shines – Balloon Fiesta Park lights up on five special signing nights The ball shines. Imagine walking among 200-300 hot air balloons on static display as they sparkle under the Albuquerque evening sky. One of the most popular places for selfies is in the middle of a “burnt all out”. The world record attempts will take place on October 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8.

Special shaped balloons – 120 special-shaped balloons will take part in the nine-day event. A flying frog, cow and pigs will join a host of other shapes as they look like parts of a child’s toy box floating overhead. Unique events, dedicated to highlighting special shapes, will take place on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 October. Americas Challenge Gas Balloon Race – Eight gas-filled balloons will be launched Oct. 1 in an effort to travel the furthest distance from Albuquerque. Previous competitions have tracked balloons flying to the East Coast and into Canada. Follow the balloons here.

Los Globitos Party – The second annual Balloon Fiesta Remote Control Balloon Rally will feature 83 tethered balloons, which are model balloons approximately 30 feet tall. The world record attempts will be launched from Balloon Fiesta Park at 7:30 a.m. on October 2, 5 and 7.
