CASPER, Wyo.– Citizens of Casper flocked to David Street Station Saturday night to enjoy the Downtown Balloon Fest. The family-friendly event featured food and drink vendors, live music from Kaspen Haley and the Boxelder Stomp Band, and hot air balloon pilots from the Casper Balloon Roundup.

A large number of attendees enjoyed the warm evening, playing, eating and relaxing to the sound of music and other attractions. Balloon pilots stood in their baskets – known as “candlesticks” – displaying columns of flame and talking to onlookers about the art of ballooning.

The balloons were launched between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. each morning, with preparations starting at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Mass launches took place at the Murane playing and football fields at Casper College. Once the balloons are launched, “they will land wherever they land,” Jereca Lutz of the Casper Area Chamber of Commerce told Oil City on Wednesday.

Sunday is children’s day on the grounds from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Children 12 and under will have the opportunity to ride a captive hot air balloon for free, Lutz said.

The Casper Balloon Roundup is presented by the Casper Area Chamber of Commerce and the Casper Children’s Center.
