Here’s what you need to know about Plano’s Hot Air Balloon Festival this fall

Colorful hot air balloons will fill the sky during the 40th anniversary of the HEB Central Market Plano Balloon Festival & Run.

The four-day event takes place September 22-25 at Oak Point Park and Plano Nature Preserve.

Tickets are on sale now at www.planoballoonfest.org. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and older. Admission is free for children 36 inches and under and for all military and first responders who show valid ID.

Kids Fun Zone ride wristbands are $20 and include all-day play on the inflatable and mechanical carnival rides. Individual ride tickets are available for $2.50 each.

The festival opens at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 22 with a Plano Symphony Orchestra family concert followed by a balloon glow at 7 p.m.

The 40th Anniversary Concert offers a limited number of $150 VIP tickets that include the reception and reserved seating.

The music will include songs from films such as Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Silverado and the James Bond series.

Other activities include tethered hot air balloon rides, weather permitting. Tickets will be sold only on site and will cost $30 for adults and $20 for children ages 6-12. Only cash will be accepted.

All balloon passengers will be required to sign a waiver. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The hot air balloon seats 10-12 passengers per ride and hovers 20-30 feet in the air but remains anchored to the ground.

On Friday and Saturday, the RE/MAX skydiving team from Texas will jump out of a plane and glide across the terrain.

Entertainment will include Party Machine and Moving Colors; two bands that deliver energetic performances and well-known musical hits.

A custom-designed fireworks display with a wide array of colors is scheduled for 9 p.m. on September 23 and 24.

The Plano Balloon Festival Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, 1K and Challenges are scheduled for September 24-25.

Registration of runners for the races is available at www.pbfraces.org.
