Hot air balloon festival returns to Qatar on December 9

Doha: The skies of Aspire Park will once again be filled with bright and colorful hot air balloons as the Qatar Balloon Festival returns for a second year from December 9-18.

40 balloons will be on display during the 10-day festival and this time it includes special shaped hot air balloons including a frog, bear, tiger, fox, dog, clown and even a ship.

Organizing Committee Chairman Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani said the festival aligns well and adds value to the vision of positioning Qatar as a desired global destination. “The 2nd edition of the Hot Air Balloon Festival is strategically aligned with the FIFA Arab World Cup to provide visitors and locals with an added thrill and excitement. New to this event is the ability for the public to book a ride balloon ride at a reduced price subsidized by the festival.

Hamad Al Khaja, Acting Manager of Events and Festivals Technical Assistance Section of Qatar Tourism, said the festival will provide a unique experience for residents and visitors of Qatar during the upcoming FIFA. “We are working closely with our public and private sector partners to enrich the country’s events calendar in a way that reflects Qatar’s position as a prestigious tourist destination and to cater to the tastes of visitors from different backgrounds and nationalities. .”

Meanwhile, Qatar Balloon Festival marketing director Ruslan Kurtveliev told The Peninsula that this year’s festival has more activities planned for audience engagement. “From 4pm to 10pm we will have our entertainment program where we will have dancers, musicians and DJs in Aspire Park. There will also be food and drink in the area, the children’s area, and we will organize also interactive games.

Kurtveliiev also revealed that they expect to exceed last year’s visitor numbers of 50,000.

And another mark that this festival is unique from the very first. The public can have the chance to take a hot air balloon ride which costs QR 299 per person. Tickets will be available next week at Doha Festival City.
