An independent Kettering store that has supplied balloons and decorations for thousands of parties is set to close.
Owned by the mother-daughter duo of Sue and Michelle Pettit, Time 2 Celebrate opened nearly 15 years ago and is currently in Regent Street.
But after dealing with a drop in shoppers coming into Kettering, Covid lockdowns and now the cost of living crisis, they have decided it is no longer viable to stay open and will close on the 20th august.
Michelle said: ‘Kettering is not a wealthy town and with the cost of living as it is people are thinking about what to spend their money on.
“The last few months have been really quiet. It’s gotten to the point where we can’t go on here anymore with an empty store.”
The store first opened in Market Street Mews before moving to Horsemarket and then to their current home four years ago. They design balloon displays and offer tableware, party supplies and wedding accessories, helping people across the county who are celebrating special occasions or hosting a prom.
Sue said the increase in online shopping was making it even harder – with people telling them they found items online instead or only arrived when their Amazon package hadn’t arrived at time.
She said: “It’s impossible to compete. We have quite a few loyal customers but there just aren’t enough.
Time 2 Celebrate set up its own online store during the Covid lockdown and ran a click and collect service, but noticed more and more people were trying to make their own decorations and balloon displays.
And with attendance barely lower than it once was, they are now closing, Michelle embarking on a new career and Sue retiring.
Michelle: “It’s definitely the end of an era. We built this from scratch and we’re sad to see it go.
The store offers sales until they close and the online store will continue to sell items while supplies last.
Time 2 Celebrate will honor all balloon orders booked after August 20th.
