The 9th Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival took over Petrack Park this month for three days of fun for all the family and once again the event was a huge success, attracting thousands throughout the weekend.

For the first time in its history, the Balloon Festival was organized by the Dubin family, in partnership with Doug Campbell of Balloons Over Pahrump. When the event’s former organizer, the Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce, made the decision to cancel the festival earlier this year, Doug Dubin and Campbell teamed up to ensure the Valley wouldn’t miss out. which has become a much-loved local tradition.

Months of hard work and preparation by the couple, as well as the rest of Dubin’s family, obviously paid off, with a delighted Dubin telling the Pahrump Valley Times: “Beautiful balloons, amazing food and great fun. excellent vendors made the 9th Annual Pahrump Balloon Festival a Success!”

It all started on Friday, November 11, which was also Veterans Day. It was no coincidence, with Dubin and Campbell choosing this specific weekend because of the opportunity it presented to include recognition of the nation’s former military service members.

The morning opened with a Veterans Day sunrise service, with a special balloon honoring prisoners of war and missing in action flying the American flag above the park. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10054 and the VFW Riders proudly presented the colors below and Gladys Martin lent her voice singing the National Anthem before the start of the rest of the day’s activities.

There were vendors galore for the Hot Air Balloon Festival patrons, with all manner of merchandise, ranging from crafts and gifts to thirst quenching drinks, delicious snacks and other dishes. Bouncing houses entertained the younger attendees of the event while DJ Soundz played music from the stage for all to enjoy.

On top of all this, a car show showcasing a range of vehicles, tournaments for those who want to test their skills on the horseshoe pitch or at a cornhole game and a scavenger hunt in which customers were able to search for gift certificates for free turkeys.

Overall, the event organizers were pleased with how the 9th Annual Balloon Festival went and expressed their gratitude to everyone who helped make the event such a triumph, in particular the sponsors: Holiday Inn Express, Ferrellgas, AmeriGas, City of Pahrump Department of Tourism, Tiberti Fence Company, WBF Management, DR Horton, Gunny’s Air Conditioning and Heating, Heady Bob Glass Legal Hi and Golden Entertainment.
