A Stowmarket couple who have supplied balloons for events ranging from gender reveal to 100th birthdays will close their shop after 11 years in business.

Cloud 9 Balloons and Party Accessories will be closing on Saturday, September 24.

Co-owner Jo Moyes said: “My husband Chris and I have helped families mark all kinds of occasions and have even seen babies in the pram well into their high school years.”

The couple opened the store in 2011 after working from home for four years.

Cloud 9 quickly grew from a relatively small operation at home to a favorite within Stowmarket.

“My favorite part has always been building a rapport with my clients. I’m definitely going to miss the chats as it’s the most enjoyable part of the job,” Jo said.

She added: “I loved getting into this joint venture between my husband and me. He’s been there every step of the way, working hard in the background.”

Jo said the closure was partly due to her arthritis, which prevents her from tying the balloons.

She said: “We will, however, continue the tradition through Chris’s son, who has just opened an online party supply store called Party Jax.”

Chris and Jo say they are “completely overwhelmed” by the number of messages they received on Facebook when they announced the store was closing.

“I thought we’d walk away quietly, but the response was really humbling. They’re such lovely customers and it all made me quite emotional,” Jo said.

Both men say they have worked six days a week for the past 11 years and are looking forward to taking a well-deserved break in the coming months.

Jo added: “It’s the right choice but as the time approaches it gets very sad. It’s the end of an era for us so I would just like to say thank you to all of our customers – we don’t couldn’t have done without them.”
