Taipei, Aug. 16 (CNA) The annual International Hot Air Balloon Festival in Taitung County wrapped up Monday night after attracting more than one million visitors since the event began in early July.
A total of 1.23 million people visited the 2022 Taiwan International Hot Air Balloon Festival which opened on July 2 in Taitung’s Luye Highlands, according to figures released by the Taitung County Tourism Department on Tuesday. .
The festival featured 20 hot air balloons from overseas that appeared in Taiwan for the first time, including two in the shape of Japanese cartoon characters Yakultman and Kumanon, and one from the United States in the shape of Elvis Presley, said the event organizer.
There were also nearly a dozen Taiwan balloons, such as the OhBear mascots from the Tourism Bureau and Bravo from the Taipei City Government.
Taitung County Magistrate Yao Ching-ling (饒慶鈴) said the festival, held for the 12th year, featured unique light shows through the use of drones for the first time ever. .
Just a day after the hot air balloon festival ended, an international skydiving event opened at the same location in the Luye Highlands on Tuesday and will last until August 24, the Taitung city government said in a statement. .
The event will include jumps from 10 professional skydivers from Taiwan, Russia and Ukraine, he said.
According to the county government, there will be three jumps each day – morning, noon and afternoon.
