Two more big announcements for the Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta

Two other important announcements were revealed today on York Mix Radio for the Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta.

One of the biggest and best events on the York calendar, the family party returns to the Knavesmire from From Friday 23 to Sunday 25 September 2022. It will combine epic balloons and family entertainment – and of course, live music.

The lineup for the party so far includes Scouting for Girls, Craig Charles, Howard Donald, Ibiza Symphonic, with more acts yet to be announced.

Today (Thursday) fiesta organizer John Lowery exclusively revealed on York Mix Radio to breakfast presenters Ben Fry and Laura Castle, two of Saturday’s top three titles.

1. Boyzlife

Kicking off the announcements for Saturday was the supergroup boyzlife – made up of former boyband members Keith Duffy and Brian McFadden of Boyzone and Westlife.

Known for his pop hits such as The one, burn for you and new single A little savingBoyzlife will sing a storm on the main stage.

“I’m the biggest Westlife fan in the world,” Laura said.

John joked that they should put them in a balloon “to get away from you”.

2. Little heather

Next to be announced was the iconic little heather.

The soul singer and former lead singer of M People is perhaps best known for her feel-good single Proud and has topped the charts since the 90s.

This will be the second time Heather Small has visited York this year, as she will also visit York Barbican on April 2.

A third title for Saturday will be announced on York Mix Radio next week – so be sure to tune in.

Roy Stride, lead singer of Scouting for Girls who will headline Friday night, also spoke with Ben and Laura on York Mix Radio and previewed what might be in store, including new music – and maybe even a performance from a hot air balloon.

“I’m going to promise you right now – weather permitting – a hot air balloon ride,” Ben said. “Actually, I was going to suggest that – assuming you were going to do She’s So Lovely – that you did it 300 feet above the Knavesmire.”

“That would be the best thing ever,” said Roy, who is a huge aviation fan. “Make sure that this happens.”
