Weather conditions cancel portions of Plano Hot Air Balloon Festival

Stormy weather over the weekend led to an early end to the Plano Balloon Festival.

“Due to the rain moving into the festival area and the continued development of rain and wind, it is possible later in the evening; the festival has made the decision to cancel the remainder of the event,” the band wrote on social media.

The organizers also thanked the community for supporting the family event which benefits many non-profit organizations.

This long-running event traditionally features dozens of hot air balloons flying over Oak Point Park each September.

The Hot Air Balloon Festival has been canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 issues.

In 2018, severe flooding at Oak Point Park and the risk of continued rain halted the event for the weekend.
